Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally-occurring compound of industrial hemp (cannabis sativa) plants. It is the most abundant non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in cannabis and is being scientifically investigated for possible treatment for numerous health conditions. Most people have heard of a cannabinoid call THC, which is the ingredient in marijuana that is intoxicating. Unlike THC, CBD (cannabidiol) is non-phsychoactive cannabinoid and does not cause a high. A wide range of scientific research has been conducted, and there is an ever-growing consensus that CBD offers real benefits to those with chronic illnesses.

CBD functions by binding to the cannabinoid receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. CBD acts as a strong antioxidant and is believed to have anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, and anti-psychotic properties that act as a neuro-protective agent. It works specifically with different receptors in our brains, gut and immune system. More specifically, it activates the cannabinoid receptors rather than interacting with them directly. CBD has been found to be beneficial in treating people who suffer from a variety of ailments.

No. Unlike THC, CBD does not produce the psychoactive effect that is commonly associated with marijuana, they are distinctly different substances. THC is the molecule that binds to the receptors in the brain and is the one responsible for the psychoactive effects of marijuana. CBD is antagonistic to the marijuana high; it actually prevents THC molecules from binding to the brain’s receptors. CBD has not demonstrated toxicity in the body (meaning it cannot make you “intoxicated” or “high”), however it is highly reactive with the body’s endocannabinoid system.

Warning: CBD oil is not intended for children under the age of 18. Do not take CBD if you are pregnant or lactating. Consult your physician before use if you have a medical condition or are taking medication where there maybe a contraindication such as those with the “grapefruit warning”. Adverse reactions: Though generally well tolerated and considered safe, CBD at high doses may cause diarrhea, fatigue, dizziness and/or appetite changes.

Yes, CBD is Legal. The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp defined as cannabis and its derivatives with low concentrations of THC (<0.3%) from the definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substance Act, thus decriminalizing hemp on the federal level. CBD is derived from hemp plants and is legal in the US and most countries worldwide while only containing trace amounts of THC.

Although there are not many cases and the exact relationship is not understood, CBD may react with certain medications similar to grapefruit juice. More specifically CBD may interact with cytochrome p450 in a way that results in diminished medication blood levels. When on prescription medications we always recommend asking your doctor if CBD is right for you. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/26651971/
